Why should you choose AngloFun as your English Immersion Center?
- Qualified teaching staff
- 4 star location
- English speaking counsellors from across Canada
- Choice of many different and fun activities
- More than 20 years experience in English immersion
1. How long has AngloFun existed and where is it located?
We have operated AngloFun since 1986 and have received over thousands of children from around the world! We are located in Stukely near Magog, in Quebec's Eastern Townships, an hour's drive from Montreal.
2. Is there an open house and can we visit our children during the session?
We invite people to visit our center all summer long, as it is going on. However we do not encourage parental visits during the sessions since we work very hard at maintaining the English immersion setting and our sessions are of relatively short duration. The director is on site and available so parents can get updates by phone, if they so desire.
3. What are the accommodations like?
Children are lodged in small pavillions in the forest. There are bunk beds, wooden floors and electricity. Showers and toilets are in close proximity. Boys and girls are lodged separately. Dorms are by age group.
4. How do you care for my child's well-being?
All activities are done, considering age groups and skill levels. Our menu is verified by a dietician and over the years has been much appreciated. We have lifeguards for water fronts and all our counsellors must follow a first-aid course before beginning to work with the children. The hospital is 10 minutes from the site. Please note that cigarettes, liquor or drugs are strictly forbidden, both for participants as well as staff.
5. Who composes your staff?
Our teachers are qualified and experienced university graduates. Teachers work with 15 students of similar level and age group every weekday morning following a proven programme for the development of conversational skills. Mrs. Lebeau, the founder, holds a Master's degree in Education, and closely follows all activities in order to ensure a proper learning environment for all participants. Teachers' biographies are always posted so all may appreciate the pedagogical quality of AngloFun.
Our counsellors are university students usually from the educational field. Of course all staff must complete a rigorous training programme covering security, hygiene, animation and second-language learning. Please note the average counsellor ratio is 1 for 5 to 8 children.
6. What about the English immersion?
Participants receive weekly activities with qualified teachers and more than 50 hours of practice per week with their counsellors. For 6 to 8 years-olds it is very often the first contact with a second-language. We therefore look mostly for a development of vocabulary through different themes such as food, sports, animals, etc. For 9 to 11 year-olds their concentration skills are greater so they definitely memorize structures more easily. For 12 to 14 year-olds they come motivated to learn and well realize the importance of a second language. Since our programmes are structured and intense it is possible for most participants to demonstrate good progress within a relatively short time frame. At the end of the session the teachers remit a written evaluation to parents in regard to the participant's ability to understand and communicate in English. For more specific explanations regarding objectives for each age group and language level, please do not hesitate to contact the director for more details.
Upon arrival there is a 30-minute orientation session. We explain rules, how to choose activities, evening events, and answer questions... Of course counsellors supervise the constant use of English during the day. We really take English immersion to heart!
7. How do you ensure the use of English?
We ask each participant to accept and sign our code of ethics. The counsellors follow a positive reinforcement programme to encourage the use of English.
8. What are the activities offered and what would be a typical day?
We offer sports activities such as volleyball, badminton, archery, swimming. Artistic activities such as painting, theater, music, dance, etc. Also horses, ponies, goats, ducks, geese, dogs, cats, rabbits are all a part of this great farm setting.
Every day the counsellor asks the participant for his daily choice. Of course some activities are dependant upon Mother Nature but at AngloFun we look forward to those rainy days when we can hold our Penny Carnival or Talent Show!

9. Payment and reimbursement policies
To reserve a session parents must make a non refundable deposit. The balance is required for the 1st of May. After that date, reimbursements are made due to medical reasons upon presentation of a medical doctor's letter. Otherwise the conditions detailed in the registration form are followed. If your child leaves before the end of the session, whether due to personal reasons or due to unacceptable behavior according to the Director, there will be no reimbursement.
10. How to prepare your child for a summer learning experience
It is normal for your child to feel a certain trepidation, excitement or nervousness before leaving home. All these emotions are normal! In order to better prepare your child, it is important to insist upon the positive aspects of the experience to come: living with nature, having holidays with friends their age, being with all kinds of fun animals… Your confidence in our ability to care for your child will enable him or her to enjoy the stay in a positive and enjoyable manner!
In our experience it is most often more difficult for the parents to say goodbye! If your child sees you worrying this sends the message that perhaps something is wrong! Please do not say to your child that you will come to get him if he/she is having difficulties. In that case it is probable that we won't have much of a chance! Help us help your child gain an unforgettable and wonderful experience, surrounded by competent and devoted professionals. It will be a lasting gift, for life!
